The EuroMAB conference was an important fixture in the E.C.O. event calendar and we provided expert support in event moderation as well as in the design and implementation of the youth programme.

The EuroMAB took place on the initiative of the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve Management, the Austrian MAB National Committee and the Austrian UNESCO Commission.  About 150 representatives of UNESCO biosphere reserves from 27 countries met in Bad Kleinkirchheim, in the Carinthian part of the UNESCO biosphere park "Salzburger Lungau und Kärntner Nockberge", from 12 to 16 September. The programme included 16 workshops and plenary sessions, in which the participants discussed the topic ‘Tying cultures. Cross-border cooperation between societies and generations' and how cooperation and communication between biosphere reserves, different stakeholders and institutions can be improved.

Lisa Wolf, expert for biosphere reserves, their development and technical support, guided the participants through the conference as moderator. Lisa Wolf and Ines Schäfer were also responsible for the design and implementation of the conference's youth programme. A total of eight young people from different countries in Europe and Japan took the opportunity to participate. They dealt intensively with the challenges and visions for the future of biosphere reserves and looked for creative solutions to master them in the future. During the interactive workshops, the participants developed concrete project ideas for implementation in their own biosphere reserves, which they presented to all participants at the end of the conference.

We are happy about the successful event and thank the rest of the organisation team for the excellent cooperation.
