Management Plan for the Dobratal Nature Reserve

In the project “Management Plan for the Dobratal Nature Reserve,” a management plan will be developed for Dobratal by the end of September 2026 as an operational working document with concrete measures and schedules for the implementation phase 2025–2029, involving the protected area management.

The aim is to achieve the best possible conservation status for an important part of the European protected area “Kamp and Kremstal.” The project is also integrated into the larger initiative to designate a national park, in which the Dobratal Nature Reserve is intended to form the core zone in the future. The previous designation of the area both as a Special Protection Area for birds and as a Habitats Directive site (FFH site) demonstrates its significance. The present project is intended to accompany the permanent withdrawal from use and, as a first step, to plan development measures in order to ensure the best possible ecological development of the area after this withdrawal from use. Legal implementation will follow the requirements of the Biodiversity Fund as well as the Lower Austrian Nature Conservation Act.

The basis for the comprehensive management plan, with a focus on forest habitats and protected features, consists of the data collected in 2025 and partly in spring 2026 (area-wide biotope mapping including FFH classification as well as faunistic surveys).
