Study tour for Montenegrin delegation in protected areas in Austria

In spring 2026, we organized and accompanied a study tour for representatives of Montenegrin protected areas to Austria. The aim of the tour was to foster international exchange on protected area management, sustainable development and innovative approaches in biosphere reserves and Natura 2000 sites. The five-day journey started in Klagenfurt with a visit to our office and an excursion to the Natura 2000 site Lendspitz-Maiernigg. Further stops included the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve, the Lower Mur Valley Biosphere Reserve and the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve. The tour concluded with an exchange with the Austrian MAB Committee. Through expert discussions and field excursions, participants gained insights into biodiversity monitoring, visitor management, regional value creation, climate change adaptation and sustainable protected area governance.
