Study: "Wetlands as natural CO2 sinks"
Wetlands and floodplains are natural CO₂ sinks. The study aims to provide an overview of the current status and potential for CO₂ storage in wetlands within the project area. Existing studies will also be drawn upon. Experience and studies from other sectors (e.g. agriculture – humus as a CO2 store) are to be applied to natural wetlands (floodplain landscapes, moors, wet meadows, etc.) and used as a basis for calculation. In selected pilot areas within the project area, samples may also be taken to define and substantiate the overall potential of a natural wetland as a CO2 sink.
