E.C.O. is responsible for drawing up the management plan for the southern Zeller See protected area network. The 223-hectare area comprises a Natura 2000 site, a nature reserve and a landscape conservation area and includes the largest intact valley floor moor in the Pinzgau region. Comprehensive field surveys are being carried out, including biotope and FFH habitat type mapping, breeding bird and territory mapping, population mapping of the Annex II species Hamatocaulis vernicosus, utilization mapping, an update of the drainage ditch concept and a survey of neophyte populations. Based on this current baseline data, conservation objectives are being developed and specific measures defined for the three sub-areas: Calming the sensitive reed zones in the north, securing and restoring species-rich litter meadows in the central area and extensification in the southern farm grassland. The aim is to secure suitable long-term habitats for rare species such as the fringed crescent moss, the yellow wagtail and the skylark. E.C.O. is providing technical support throughout the entire planning process.
