The Walterskirchen Estate European nature reserve on Lake Wörthersee comprises near-natural shoreline areas, lakes, moors, meadows and forests. It is home to valuable FFH habitats such as dystrophic lakes, transition bogs and pine swamp forests as well as endangered species, including bats and amphibians. The management plan drawn up by E.C.O. aims to maintain the favorable conservation status of the protected assets by calming sensitive areas, directing visitors to the shore zone, extensive use of meadows and forests and monitoring. Another issue is the presence of cormorants in the area of the Kleiner See and any associated impacts.
