Frastanzer Ried management plan
The Frastanzer Ried is the largest wetland area in the Walgau region and part of the Natura 2000 network. It is home to valuable habitat types such as moor grass meadows and fens as well as protected species such as the great crested newt, yellow-bellied toad and marsh gladiolus. The management plan drawn up by E.C.O. in 2024 serves to safeguard and improve the ecological status in the long term. Key measures include the preservation of traditional meadow use, neophyte management, hydrological optimization and awareness-raising. Implementation is carried out in close coordination with local stakeholders. The aim is to permanently preserve the Ried as a biodiversity hotspot and important drinking water protection area.
