The manual compiled by E.C.O. describes the application of the Longterm Biodiversity Index (LBI) for the assessment and promotion of biodiversity in quarrying areas. The aim is to objectively record the ecological development of quarries using standardized monitoring. The method compares biodiversity in extraction and reference areas and gives particular weighting to endangered species. Drone-based mapping and stratified sampling enable detailed habitat and species analyses. The LBI serves as a decision-making aid for the optimization of management measures in terms of nature conservation and documents their success in the long term. The prerequisite is a continuous, long-term financed survey.
