A milestone for Europe's beech forests: Belgium, Slovakia and Austria have founded a Permanent Secretariat for the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of Europe”. Austria - represented by E.C.O. and the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences - is taking over the management of research and monitoring. The aim is to improve the coordination and long-term safeguarding of this unique natural heritage in 93 areas across 18 countries. The project will run from 2024-2029.
