The Hochobir in the Karawanken on the Austrian-Slovenian border is a nature area of outstanding significance. During the course of an Interreg project spanning several years in the late 1990s a number of measures were implemented on the Hochobir, and an accompanying monitoring system was set up to evaluate the measures. In 2012 a new round of monitoring took place in line with the principle of hierarchical monitoring by subdividing this into so-called monitopes (areas being studied), permanent test areas (sites) and permanent and partial sample areas (plots, subplots). The data is administered and compiled by means of a specially designed Access database, which has been connected to ArcGIS 9.2 to enable further processing.
