Family leisure activities in nature are very popular and invigorate the mind and body. A walk in the woods, at the waterfront or in the mountains makes you feel good and has relaxing effects. Theme trails combine this pleasant exercise in the fresh air with creative ways of imparting knowledge and exciting info-points. Because of this a visit at a theme trail can become a unique (nature)experience.

To find the best theme trails, the team of E.C.O. visited 130 trails in 53 protected areas, like biosphere reserves, national parks, nature parks and Ramsar sites in Austria. These trails were evaluated against about 100 criteria in three key areas: quality of the content, quality of the design and quality of maintenance. Through reaching a defined treshold, 33 theme trails were awarded the „Themenwege des Jahres 2014“ (best theme trails of 2014) and are presented in the new hiking guide.
