The Natura 2000 area Lendspitz-Maiernigg is in the immediate vicinity of the Alps-Adriatic University of Klagenfurt. It is an ecologically valuable wet habitat and at the same time is an important local recreation area for the population of Klagenfurt. In this project students from the University in Klagenfurt and the course “Management of protected areas” will collaborate with the city of Klagenfurt and the province of Carinthia in maintaining the protected area. “City meets Nature” is a process-oriented project in which focal areas and measures will be developed, coordinated and implemented step by step. Particular attention has been paid to visitor information and management, and also to planning and implementing nature conservation measures.
