Pinus mugo subsp. uncinata is a mountain pine that is closely related to the dwarf pine (Pinus mugo subsp. mugo), but grows upright. It needs very specific conditions to do so, which it finds, for example, in the Bavarian Karwendel region. Based on a preliminary remote sensing mapping, Pinus mugo subsp. uncinata stands in the Natura 2000 areas on the northern edge of the Bavarian Alps were terrestrially surveyed in summer 2023. In a first survey, the remote sensing mapping was verified and current stand boundaries were recorded, and in a second survey, the conservation status of the areas was documented. This includes the cover of the individual tree species, the regeneration, the stratification, the stage, the proportion of deadwood and the number of habitat trees. In addition, 2 vegetation surveys were carried out per Natura 2000 site.
